Those favoring Prop. 8...what is their claim that banning same- marriage is ok?

I know a lot of people are against Proposition 8, which makes sense considering gays have every right to marry! But Prop. 8 seems to have a lot of supporters, and there is a big defense lawsuit supporting it. What are their basis for why it's a good law? I can't think of any good ideas...
