Straightening EVERY Day?

I think my hair only really looks nice when it is straightened but my hairdresser told me that its not a good idea to straigten it everyday. But I know loads of girls my age who straigten theirs everyday and their hair looks fab! My hair is short and has layers with highlights that tentd to make my hair quite dry unless conditioned well, will straightening everyday do my hair more bad than good? :S
